Becky + Josh Take Cape Cod: Day 1 (5/31/26)

In the style of the sequel to Mamma Mia!, I’m calling this trip Cape Cod! Here We Go Again. I, of course, planned the entire trip based on some things we didn’t get to last year and also some new things that I found through research. I’ll have a recap for each day posted over the next week or so, so stay tuned!

We left on Sunday after lunch, and it took us about 2.5 hours to get to the Cape. We were staying in the same Airbnb where we stayed last year because we loved it so much. It started raining once we got to the cottage and rained for the rest of the night. (Luckily, this was our only rainy day of the vacation, so I was glad it was just that first night we were there.)

I rested for an hour because long drives make me sleepy, and I didn’t sleep well the night before. I usually get nervous before vacations, and I was also nervous about leaving Cannoli alone for the first time ever. My parents were on cat-sitting duty, coming over to the condo twice a day to feed her; we bought an automatic feeder and set that up for her dry food snacks at lunch and at night. I left my parents detailed instructions, even though they’ve had cats since they were first married, and my mom did send us updates throughout the week.

Just like our first night in the Cape last year, we went to Sea Dog Brew Pub for dinner. We both got blueberry beers, I got steak tacos, and Josh got steak tortellini.

Afterward, we went back to the cottage. Because of the rain, we couldn’t go for a walk in the neighborhood and walk to get ice cream; if anyone remembers, there was an ice cream shop—Cape Cod Creamery—about a minute walk from the Airbnb that we went to three times last year. We drove over later on, and I got Allen Harbor Almond Joy, and Josh got Sandbar Swirl. All of the flavors are named after places in Cape Cod.

We finished out the night watching CohhCarnage, a YouTube streamer we’ve been watching since last year. We’re in the middle of his Kingdom Come: Deliverance II playthrough. I went in and read after 9:00 pm (One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London) and went to bed around 10:00 pm.
