One of my biggest fears is going through a drive-thru.
It’s okay, you can laugh at me. Others have when I’ve told them.
If I have the option to go inside, like at the bank or store, I will opt to get out of my car and walk inside. I don’t like drive-thrus because you can’t see the person you’re talking to and, like, what if my order gets distorted through the speaker to them? It just makes me unnecessarily paranoid. I’d rather go inside and talk to someone in person, which is sort of ironic since I normally don’t like talking to other people.
Okay, so, I don’t hate all drive-thrus. Sometimes I used to use the one at the bank because you can see the other person through the window, but my issue with that one was that I had to practically throw myself out of my SUV window in order to reach the drawer. Aside from that, I will not use the drive-thru anywhere.
Even now during COVID, I will go into Dunkin’ to get my coffee. But it’s even better now since I use the mobile app to order! Using the Dunkin’ app was my first time mobile ordering, and I’m hooked.
My coffee order isn’t complicated, and neither is my mom’s if I pick her up one, but it’s just easier to pick everything and order on the app. Plus I think it’s going to be a way for me to try new drinks that I wouldn’t necessarily know how to order verbally, like lattes or other new drinks Dunkin’ has.
Maybe one day I’ll get over my fear of drive-thrus, but for now, I’ll stick with being that person who goes inside and orders in person. (Plus, sometimes it’s even faster than the drive-thru and waiting in line in your car.)
Do you usually walk in or do you use a drive-thru?
My husband always likes going in because then he could make sure the order is taken correctly, especially in a fast food place. I always use the drive through but I stop before I get all the way off the property to check my order. I have had to drive through twice a couple of times if they made a mistake (he, hubs, doesn’t like cheese on his burgers and they always want to put cheese on things) – LOL.

If I have a car, I would much rather go to the drive thru. But since I don’t have one, its walk-ins all the time for me 😂 with covid I would much rather do the drive thru as well. I have never tried a drive thru bank? That would be one thing I like to go in for.
But my best friend is the same as you and prefers walk-ins all the way!

Going inside and going back to your car is faster than drive thru in some places.

If I’m driving, I don’t like drive thurs because I’m short and can’t reach the food unless I get out of my car, so I opt for walk-in. If someone else is driving, then it doesn’t matter to me. As for banks, I use the ATM machine associated with my bank. I find ATM easier when I just want cash, but if it’s anything else I go inside. When the pandemic started, I stopped going to banks completely and haven’t been to one in almost a year.

I’m glad I’m not the only one! 😂 I hate drive-thrus! I have a tiny voice and an accent so even in person, people don’t always hear/understand me. In person, I can at least gesticulate or point at stuff. My husband thinks I’m weird but whatever… 😅

I also walk in rather than doing drive-thrus. Usually, I can’t hear the person, or they can’t hear me, or I can’t reach the card machine, or something else weird happens. It’s just easier to go in and do your stuff in person. Anyway, I’m with you.
All the best, Michelle (michellesclutterbox.com)

I love how you make such an ordinary thing — drive thru or go in — so engaging. That’s the sign of a good writer!
