Fall Feelings

Last month I talked about some of my favorite things about fall. Now that it’s October and the weather is getting cooler, it finally feels like fall, and it makes me happy. I don’t really have a favorite season, which is funny because New England has four distinct seasons—although we sometimes experience all four in one week.

It seems like this kind of weather and feeling doesn’t last for too long, and I’m trying to take full advantage of it while I can. It’s been between 60 and 70 degrees, sunny, and breezy: my absolute favorite kind of weather. The trees have been changing all month, and they look amazing. The tree in my front yard really changed its colors this week and that means I had to definitely go out and take some pictures.

There’s just something so soothing about the fall atmosphere. It feels like a relief after making it through the hot and humid summer, like you can finally catch your breath and enjoy being outside. The leaves change and remind us that it’s okay to change, and although the leaves fall off the trees for the winter, new things are coming in the spring. The colors are beautiful, often don’t last for long, and it seems like no two leaves turn the same color.

If fall could last year round, I think I would be happy. Or if the weather and environment could be like the entire month of October. As the quote from Anne of Green Gables goes, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
