I survived my first commencement! It was definitely different being on the other side, especially since I walked at commencement twice at school—for undergrad and grad. I had a game plan prior to the weekend of what I wanted to cover and get pictures of for social media, and I think everything turned out great. We graduate out of our field house (aka the gym) and have two ceremonies over the weekend: undergrad on Saturday and graduate on Sunday. It was nice, too, to be there because some friends of mine were graduating in both ceremonies.
Now that the school year is really over, people keep asking me if I still have to work during the summer. Yes, I do haha. We’ll spend the summer catching up on stuff and working on some projects we didn’t get to during the semester. There will be summer orientations for the incoming freshmen in June and July, and then we’ll be prepping for opening weekend/week in August when everyone moves in.
I have a 5K race next Saturday. One of the girls from the ice cream shop is running it with me, and my boss and one of my coworkers are also running it. I ran twice last week—even on my birthday!—and I’ll run three times this week—Monday, Thursday, and tomorrow morning. I’m hoping to get back into a groove of two to three times a week. I’ve mapped out a good 5K path on campus, and now that we have summer hours—we get out at a half hour early—I’ll go running on campus since it’s small.
After that race, the next one is the Newport 5K I ran last year in July. We’re going to get a hotel room for the night so we don’t have to drive down there and back in one day again. AND I’ll remember to wear sunscreen this time!
If you missed my recap of my trip to Fenway, you can check that out here. I’m gonna be honest: I’ve only been watching innings of games here and there. I’m trying to catch up on my DVR or I’m going to bed early. But from what I see on Twitter, I guess I’m not missing much when it comes to the Sox.
What I’ve Watched on Netflix/TV
Netflix: Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, Dead To Me, The Lonely Island Presents: The Unauthorized Bash Brothers, and The Perfect Bid. I wasn’t a big fan of the Zac Efron/Ted Bundy movie; I also had issues with the documentary that came out earlier this year. They just seemed boring to me for some reason. I highly recommend Dead To Me. I’m looking for something new to watch. I’ve put a few things in my list on Netflix but nothing’s jumping out at me.
TV: Same as last month… The Bold Type, Law & Order: SVU, NCIS, Whiskey Cavalier, The Blacklist, and New Amsterdam (I’m behind on New Amsterdam, though). And I’m sad that Whiskey Cavalier got cancelled. Clearly ABC didn’t ask for my opinion. I’ve gotten bad at watching what’s in my DVR because baseball is on or I want to go into bed early so I can read.
What I’ve Been Reading
- Savage News by Jessica Yellin: 3 stars
- Landfall by Thomas Mallon: did not finish; I got ~300 pages in and felt like I was reading nothing exciting
- Before and Again by Barbara Delinsky: 3 stars
- Talk to Me by John Kenney: 4 stars
- A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman: currently reading
Landfall tripped up my reading speed so it appears that I only read three books this month… hmph.
I celebrated my 25th birthday last weekend! And I still look like I’m 18. I made it a long weekend from work, which was nice. I went to a grad party, went to a brewery, and ended up scooping on Monday/Memorial Day. I also read some and just hung out; it was much needed after the previous weekend at commencement.
I’m going to a Hartford Yard Goats game next month! Which I’m excited about. My dad will be putting up our pool soon—it’s one of those 15 foot blue Intex ones—so I’ll be able to sit out and read and float. Funny enough, I still have the tan line on my right wrist from my hair tie from last year.
My Questions For You!
- How was your month?
- Did you do anything for Memorial Day Weekend?
- Do you like going to graduations? (whether it’s yours or someone else’s)
- What should I watch next on Netflix?
