Catching Up Over Coffee: October 2026

Hartford Marathon 5K: I ran the Hartford 5K for the third year in a row earlier this month. It sucks having to get up at 4:30 am, but it’s always so fun to run. My reward was going to a local coffeeshop/bookstore for pumpkin spice lattes.

Fun fall festivities: We went apple picking, painted pumpkins, went to Scarecrows on Main Street in Old Wethersfield, CT, and found a new brew fest at the New England Air Museum called Halloween in the Hangars. Josh and I dressed up as Sulley and Boo from Monsters, Inc., and my friend, Alex, who went with us, dressed up as Tinker Bell. (I briefly thought about asking if she’d want to be Mike to complete our Monsters, Inc. theme, but she had already told me about her Tinker Bell idea haha.)

Seeing Mamma Mia! at The Bushnell: This is my favorite musical, and Josh first told me that the show was coming to Hartford this month. I’ve never seen it done professionally, and it was so much fun.

Miscellaneous

  • I spent too much time at the dentist this month. My first appointment was because I was experiencing some pain and wasn’t sure if it was a tooth issue or my jaw. Turns out it was my jaw because I wasn’t wearing my nighttime retainers. My second appointment was my already scheduled six month cleaning. My third appointment was a consult with one of the dentists to get new retainers made. And, finally, my fourth appointment was to pick up the retainers.
  • I ran a second 5K race. This was my first time running this particular race, and it actually started and ended at the brewery where Josh and I had our first date five years ago. It was much more low-key than Hartford, but still a lot of fun, and I’d definitely do it again next year. Plus, my bib came with a free beer!
  • I voted early. Connecticut offers two weeks of early voting before Election Day, and I was going back and forth between voting early at town hall or just waiting until November 3 at my polling location. But then I told myself if I voted early, I’d reward myself with a trip to the library, so that’s what happened. I was in and out in five minutes, and I got 10 books from the library.
