Josh and I didn’t do too many winter activities like we did last year, but we knew we wanted to go back to McCray’s Farm for their Holiday Light Walkthrough. Based on our schedules, the last Friday of the month—and of 2023—worked best; we bought tickets online in advance, which makes check-in super easy at the farm.

We went to dinner at The Yarde Tavern in South Hadley, and I think I’m slacking on my blogging responsibilities as this was the only food picture I took. That beer cheese was so good, though. We both got sandwiches in addition to the pretzels.
We bought tickets for 6:30 p.m. for the walkthrough—they have timed entries you can choose from when you buy tickets online—and we got there right on time. The parking lot wasn’t as crowded as it was last year, but there were some groups and families heading in when we were.

Since it’s a farm, there are obviously animals there, and it was cute to see all of the lights on their pens. Along with the cows, there were goats and alpacas (or llamas), and on the other side of the path was a large pond with ducks and geese.

Then we snuck back out the entrance to get hot drinks before heading into the walkthrough. I got hot apple cider with rum, and Josh got hot chocolate with Irish Creme. A group that was ahead of us wanted a picture and asked for me to take it, and then offered to take one for us.

The path is dirt, so we wore our boots, and the weather was a bit warmer than last year—more in the mid-40s, but at least it wasn’t raining because we’ve been dealing with a lot of rain recently in Connecticut/Massachusetts. We were happy to see there were new light exhibits this year, like the Red Sox logo (in that same area were logos of all the Boston sports teams) and the pink/red lights with a love theme.

About halfway through, the path goes onto the mini golf course, and it’s cool that you get to walk through the course itself. It seemed like every inch of the farm was covered in lights, and it was so festive.

It took us about 40 minutes to walk through. Although we went after Christmas, it kept us in the holiday spirit and something we want to make an annual tradition for ourselves. Plus we’ll never say no to festive alcoholic beverages.
