My Favorite Quotes

A post about my favorite quotes! Check ’em out below. (And yes, they’re all from books or pieces of literature—go figure.)

“Certain things, they should stay the way they are. You ought to be able to stick them in one of those big glass cases and just leave them alone.”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

“It doesn’t matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that’s like you after you take your hands away.”
― Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

The two quotes above I painted on canvases for my office last year.

“Talking was like throwing a baseball. You couldn’t plan it out beforehand. You just had to let go and see what happened. You had to throw out words without knowing whether anyone would catch them—you had to throw out words you knew no one would catch. You had to send your words out where they weren’t yours anymore.”
― Chad Harbach, The Art of Fielding

This is my favorite book. I own it and definitely need to read it again sometime soon.

“And don’t worry about losing. If it is right, it happens—The main thing is not to hurry. Nothing good gets away.”
― John Steinbeck

I had this quote as the background image on my phone for a few months while I was going through the job search (even though the quote is about love). It was reassuring as I kept applying and kept getting rejected. (And nothing good got away. The timing worked out that I’m now in a job I really like at a place I really, really like.)

“Don’t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

This last quote is my all time favorite quote from a book. I read it in 10th grade, and yeah, I’ll admit I used Sparknotes for the second half of the book, but for some reason, the last two sentences of the book stuck with me. I own the book now, and I tried reading it last year but it got thrown aside as I was reading other books. I’d like to finish it this year, but this quote, I think, is always going to stick with me.
