Where We Went
Highland Lighthouse. This lighthouse in Truro was on our way to Provincetown and probably the easiest lighthouse we’d be able to get to/see on our trip. They offer tours of the lighthouse, but we figured we’d just stop by and look at it from the outside.
This was Cape Cod’s first lighthouse, first commissioned by George Washington and established in 1797 as the 20th light station in the US. The present light tower, keeper’s house, and generator shed replaced previous structures in 1857. Due to erosion of the steep cliff throughout the years, the Highland Light Station was moved 450 feet back to safer ground in the mid-1990s. (Highland Lighthouse History)

Provincetown. Since P-town was about an hour drive from where we were staying, during our trip planning, we decided to dedicate an afternoon to the area. We parked by the pier since it was central to Commercial Street (basically the “main” street in the town) and where we’d be walking around.

I knew I wanted to go to Tim’s Used Books while we were there, and it was actually cute and hidden back from the road by a bunch of trees. I got four books there: The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, and Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty by Patrick Radden Keefe.

We popped into a few other stores just to look around, and Josh wanted to get a Provincetown shot glass while we were there. (He’s been collecting shot glasses for years and usually gets one when we go to a new place.) We went to Provincetown Brewing, which I’ll talk about below, and after dinner, we walked around the pier down by the boats.
What We Ate + Drank
Breakfast: Made at the Airbnb. Scrambled eggs, English muffins, yogurt, and strawberries.
Lunch: Made at the Airbnb. We made sandwiches and chips again as a quick lunch before leaving for Provincetown.
Provincetown Brewing. I found this place way back during my research, and they were in the process of moving buildings. I was hoping they would be open in time for our trip, and thankfully, they were. The place also reminded me a lot of Red Bear Brewing in DC, so that’s also why I wanted to go.
I got Bearded Mistress IPA, and Josh got the Golden Hook Ale. We sat in their sort of indoor/outdoor area and just got the drinks. There was another bar outside and a lawn area for games, and it looks like they have a bunch of events there on the weekends.
And I got complimented on my Book Girl Summer shirt! (I’m wearing it in the picture from Tim’s Used Books.) Josh got it for me for my birthday and was happy that someone else liked it.
Dinner: The Squealing Pig. The food was good (I got a pesto chicken toastie, and Josh got the hog burger), but we couldn’t quite figure out the overall vibe of the restaurant. That’s probably why we would put it at the bottom of our list of places where we ate. There were some Irish signs and flags, but it wasn’t really an Irish place, so it was a bit confusing.
Other Notes
When we got back to the Airbnb, we had a bottle of champagne left for us in the fridge! The night before, we had some issues with the Roku TV in the living room connecting to the internet (like it just disconnected on its own while we were watching Cohh on YouTube). Josh let the Airbnb host know that it wasn’t working anymore, and we adapted for the rest of the night by hooking Josh’s laptop up to the TV via HDMI. The host ordered a new Roku, and the on-site property manager installed it on Thursday and left us a bottle of champagne for our troubles. (It was such a super minor thing, but still really nice that they did that for us.)
PS: I also finished My Friends in the morning before we left. So I officially read 1.5 books on vacation… and left with 11.
