Catching Up Over Coffee: April 2024

Life

We celebrated Maggie’s 12th birthday on the 4th! And then I went to my parents’ house for the eclipse, and we had to make sure the pups were being safe. (Don’t worry: my dad made sure they were in the house during the eclipse.)

I had some well-deserved alone time while Josh was in Italy for a week, which I mentioned in this post; he safely made it home and I think has mostly recovered from the jet lag.

I’ve been pretty occupied this month with re-painting my kitchen cabinets. I tackled the first section above the stove/fridge, and it took me just over two weeks to go from start to finish. Shoutout to my mom for coming over one Sunday to paint for three hours. I’ve been trying to work on something for a few hours after work, and it was slow progress for a bit, but I’m so happy with how the color came out. Now I’m moving onto the lower cabinets below, which will be painted sage green.

Things not pictured:

  • Had lunch with two friends and went to see The Rocky Horror Show put on by the theater group at the college where I work.
  • And had two other lunch dates: one with my boss and our work-study student who is graduating next month and another with my mom and a friend from the ice cream shop.
  • I might be suffering from allergies? I usually get hit this time of year, but I can’t quite tell yet. Regardless, it might be time for some indoor activities for the next few weeks.
  • I bought myself a new FitBit for the first time in four years. The one I had was fine but I was having a lot of trouble syncing it to my phone. So I treated myself to the Versa 4 model.
  • I’ve been planning for our upcoming trip to Cleveland, which includes a lot of Google maps and looking up places on Instagram.

“Exercise”?

The only consistent exercise I did this month was my weekly dance class. I ran twice and went on a few walks, but just haven’t been doing as much as I’d like to. I’m signed up for a 5K on this Saturday, and I’m not sure if I’m going to do it. (It’s only my fault because I signed up back in March.)

Sports

Congrats to the UConn men for winning the national championship! We finished watching the end of March Madness and even part of the WNBA Draft.

I’ve been trying to make an effort to watch Red Sox games when I can—or whenever MLB TV decides to cooperate with me. Josh has been watching a few games with me and asking questions; we spent a good amount of time going over base running after a sac fly is caught in the outfield.

Also, the Minnesota Twins have a homerun summer sausage? That’s super weird—but something I’m curious about after watching part of the Twins/White Sox game last night.

    • It was my first time ever seeing the show so I wasn’t aware of the audience participation part. But there were people in the audience who were yelling stuff back at the actors which was funny. I did take part in the Time Warp dance at the end, though (from my seat).
