Post-Super Bowl LVIII Thoughts

I prepped for the Super Bowl the best way I know how: reading and napping. Until I got a frantic call from my parents saying their internet and cable were down. (We have the same provider and they were wondering if I had internet across town, which I did.) That was probably the worst day of the year to have no internet and cable, but I got a text a few hours later saying it was back up and running. Phew.

Our plans for the Big Game changed: we were originally supposed to go to Josh’s cousin’s house, but Josh wasn’t feeling too well so we decided to stay home. It’s not COVID—he took a test yesterday—but it could be allergies or just a cold since New England is doing what New England does best by being 60 degrees and sunny over the weekend and now we’re getting close to a foot of snow.

Our dinner consisted of fried pickles and pretzel bites (with sauces to choose from) along with spinach artichoke dip (dropped off by my mom earlier in the day). Later on for dessert, we had fudge swirl ice cream sundaes.

I wore my “Taylor’s Verison” t-shirt, although I was rooting for the 49ers.

For some reason, I stayed up to watch the entire game. Once it hit overtime, I kept asking Josh if I could go to bed, and he kept saying no. But once the Chiefs scored, I said “peace out” and went to sleep. I also found out that the post-season overtime rules are different than the regular reason rules? I wasn’t the only one though: the 49ers players had no clue.

As always, here are the observations and in-coherent ramblings from the game via the Notes app on my phone:

Super Bowl notes

Taylor count (after kick-off and during the game): 12 (Although CBS showed her A TON during the pre-game stuff once they found out she made it from Japan.)

49ers walk out of tunnel: are those walls leftover from The Weeknd’s halftime performance?

Post Malone: very good!

Love the shoutouts to the ASL signers

Reba!!!!! Unofficial time: 1:35:50

Yes, Jim Nance we get it: the first-ever Super Bowl in Las Vegas

The font on the scorebug looks weird.

The graphics on the Nick game looks better but is this what having a fever dream is like? You know people had to sit in a meeting and be like, “Okay hear me out here: a fun fact graphic comparing Christian McCaffrey and Sandy Cheeks.” I guess my dad liked the graphics?

The commercials are okay so far???

A lot of movie trailers

Tom Brady is doing something in his second retirement (Bet MGM commercial)

Not much is happening in this game so far???

Josh: Is this going to be like the Pats/Rams Super Bowl when it’s all defense?

Two commercials with Dan Marino?! (M&Ms and Michelob)

Michael Cera CeraVe commercial: funny/creepy

There are more flags than drives at this point

We’re finally past mid-field! With 38 seconds left in the first quarter

Arnold State Farm neigh-bah commercial and T-Mobile commercial: funny

Woo hoo 49ers field goal

RIP Carl Weathers

Kate McKinnon cat commercial! And Pete Davidson! Mayo cat!

Ooh I wanna drive that cute little injury cart

Reese’s commercial with the dog hula-hooping

Ooh fighting! Finally something exciting in this game

49ers touchdown!

DUNKIN COMMERCIAL!!! Tom Brady! Matt Damon! Yesssss

Tom Brady commercial count: 2

Usher’s halftime show was pretty good! He’s a really good dancer and the last few songs gave us middle school throwback vibes.

Buster! (from Arrested Development) In the commercial with Beyoncé

Third time seeing this Temu commercial: what is it?

This game sucks.

Show the streaker!!!! Cowards

Booo Chiefs touchdown

This game could be 20-19 49ers and I could go to bed.

  1. Very funny commentary. I didn’t watch the game. Even though we are from SF Bay area neither my husband (a Cowboy fan) nor I (a baseball fan) wanted the 9-ers to win. In fact, I placed a bet on the Chiefs to win since I equate the 9-ers with the Dodgers, get to the show and then crash and burn. I won my bet 🙂 Watched none of the game as I worked in my studio but did check out the half-time show on YouTube yesterday where I could fast forward. It was okay. Hope Josh is feeling better.

    • I’ll watch the Super Bowl regardless of who’s in it but it’s always hard to pick a team to root for haha. Josh is feeling better, but unfortunately I then got the cold he had. I think I’m at the end of it today but it made for a sucky week for the both of us.

  2. When the streaker was announced, I cracked up over the fact they announced it, and then in hushed tones were like, “But we can’t talk about that…” 😅

It was also a struggle for me to stay up for the whole game. Once OT hit, I begged my husband if I could go to bed and he said, “You’ve made it this far. Don’t you just want to stick it out and see who wins?” Honestly, I didn’t care, but I powered through.

The commercials didn’t really do it for me this year (which is fine). Since we’re watching Suits at the moment, I really appreciated the cameos from their actors in the T-Mobile and E.l.f. commercials.

    Hope Josh is feeling better!!

    • I had the same mentality when it went to overtime but I think if it went on for too long I was just going to go to bed anyway. I did notice the Suits cameos in those commercials! It’s funny how it got a second wind recently with people watching it; I watched the first few seasons when it was first on TV but never continued watching it.

He’s feeling better, but then I got the cold he had midway through the week. I’m doing better today but it made for a long and sucky week for the both of us.
