Falling Into Fall

I feel like if I was filling out a Favorite Things list, for “season” I’d put summer, but I think I have a better answer: right now. I know that “right now” isn’t a meteorological season, but I am absolutely loving everything about mid-September to mid-October.

I’d have to say my number one favorite thing about this time of year is the weather. I live in New England—born and raised—so I’m used to having four distinct seasons (sometimes we experience all four in the same week if we’re lucky). It’s no longer humid or hot or thunderstorm-y. I don’t have fall allergies, thankfully, since in the spring there’s usually a two to three week period where I can’t go outside. I can leave the windows open 24/7 and finally shut off my AC—that was the real MVP this summer.

The mornings are cool enough for a jacket but warm enough in the afternoon that you can still do things outside after dinner. I’m transitioning into hoodies and leggings, sweaters and jeans. There’s nothing I love more than being cozy and not having to worry about sweating all the time. I’m never without a blanket within ten feet of me in the condo. Even if I’m not cold it’s just a nice comfort thing to snuggle up with.

And with fall comes the changing of the leaves. It makes the world feel a bit magical, even if it doesn’t last too long.

It’s technically still summer until this Saturday—that’s not stopping me from falling headfirst into everything fall-related.

Most importantly: pumpkin coffee creamer. The grocery store had an entire end-cap full of pumpkin-related items in the middle of August, so we got a container of creamer. (We’ll keep that going until peppermint mocha comes out for winter.)

It’s a great time of year for activities; I’ve already made a fall bucket list:

  • Fun fall drinks at a winery (which I did with a friend last weekend)
  • Hike at a state park
  • Going to a cider mill
  • Apple picking
  • Mike’s Maze beer tasting (which we did last year)
  • The Big E (also did last year)

And it’s also soup and Crockpot season. Josh and I plan to make a new Crockpot recipe every Sunday for football; I’ll maybe make a post later of some of our favorites!

I put out my fall decorations last week. Josh helped bring the bin up from the basement and supervised while I aimlessly wandered around trying to figure out where to put everything. It instantly made the living room feel so much cozier. Unfortunately, I realized I only have three fall-scented candles, which is devastating. Josh suggested a trip to Target to make up for it.

So if you need me, I’ll be curled up in a blanket with a pumpkin scented candle burning watching football.

What are some of your favorite parts of fall?

  2. I too recently took inventory of my fall candle stash and discovered I only had 2 and they only had about an inch of wax left! My husband was the one to suggest we go to Bath&Body Works to reup, so we went and purchased 4 new scents. 🙂 Now that the temps are more reasonable, I’ve been riding my motorcycle a lot more and I’m loving every second!
