Start of the NFL Season

Happy first day of the NFL season, folks! As much as I love baseball, I do get excited for football season. It’s a valid reason to not leave the couch all day on Sundays.

Now that Josh and I live together, we can fully enjoy the NFL season together. Last year, he would stop by on Sundays after work and then have to leave during the nighttime game. I definitely think we’ll make some great game-day meals in the crockpot.

I’m in two fantasy leagues this year: the usual one led by our wonderful commissioner, Paul—the same one that I won the championship in last year; and one with Josh and his family and friends.

In Josh’s league, we had the draft last week with some of the participants in person: Josh, me, his brother, and their cousin. I was a last-minute addition but I prepared the afternoon of the draft; nothing new for me. My team name is “4th and Long Story Short”—a play on the Taylor Swift song, “Long Story Short.” Josh offered to be an assistant GM on that team so I can focus on defending my championship title, just in case he has to do any game-time moves for 4LSS.

As for the Intercontinental Football League, I actually prepped the day before—only because I had plans the day before the draft itself. I’m keeping my name—All Hail New York Giants—and I’m happy to report that Josh and I didn’t break up during or after the draft. (He was upset, though, that I took some of the players he wanted; it wasn’t my fault I had a higher draft pick than him.) He was just glad he was able to make the draft and wasn’t overseas like last year.

I didn’t really pay attention to the trades over the off-season, so I’m expecting to say a lot of “Wait, he plays for that team?” during this first week. I did that a few times during the drafts. We’ll probably watch some of the game tonight, but unfortunately, we’ll miss the games on Sunday because Josh’s sister is getting married. Josh told me that he’s going to have his phone out at the reception to watch the games 😅

We have ~11 weeks until our trip down to New Jersey for a Patriots/Giants game. I think that might be the true test of our relationship. The teams usually play each other during pre-season, but this year they have a regular season match-up. We bought nosebleed tickets, and we also got a hotel room about 20 minutes from MetLife to stay over into Monday; it has a “view” of the NYC skyline. Probably if you squint hard enough. But we’re both excited to go.

Any thoughts on the upcoming season? Any fantasy draft surprises? Are you going to any games?
