If We Were Having Tea

I’m sorry—it’s already (practically) May?! This year is going by soooo fast.

Work

April is the last full month of the semester; classes end this Friday, and then there are finals next week. I’ve had a few people ask if I have the summers off. I don’t, but it’s a valid question. We’ll get summer hours at the end of May until August; we’ll get out at 4:00 p.m. instead of 4:30 p.m.

Last week there were a few fun events that happened on campus. The first was a kite festival, and it ended up being a beautiful day to fly some kites. The second was the food trucks last Thursday as part of the pre-event for the spring concert.

I got a grilled cheese with bacon and dill pickles and an Oreo cannoli. Both were SO good. There was also a baked potato truck, Korean truck, Irish pub food truck, and a sandwich truck, which I got a smoothie from later, because we went back a second time.

My mom joked and asked if I actually was in my office at all last week. It’s my not fault my job involves attending really fun events. Those Instagram stories aren’t going to post themselves.

I’m scooping every weekend, normally working Saturday nights and Sundays during the day. I probably won’t have a day off from either job until Memorial Day weekend, which is also when my 25th birthday is.

Running

I haven’t been running as much as I’d like, maybe only once a week. The weather is so up and down here since it’s spring, so it’s hard to run outside consistently. At least I have the indoor track on campus.

Baseball

I’M GOING TO A RED SOX GAME IN TWO WEEKS.

YA GIRL IS GOING TO FENWAY!

After finals week, the graduating seniors have “Senior Week” and one of the days they’re going to a Sox game. They had to purchase a certain amount of tickets, so they opened up some to faculty and staff. Me and three other people from my office are going to the May 14th game against the Rockies. We’ll have bleacher seats, but I honestly don’t care because I haven’t been to Fenway in two years. I’m so excited to go 🙂

What I’ve Watched on Netflix/TV

Netflix: Still watching Arrested Development. I made it to the fourth season, which was part of the re-boot they did on Netflix. It’s a little different than the first three seasons, but I’m giving it a chance.

TV: The Bold Type, Law & Order: SVU, NCIS, Whiskey Cavalier, and New Amsterdam. I recorded The Village and The Fix on my DVR; I haven’t started watching them yet. I have the habit of seeing previews of upcoming shows and then recording them and not remembering what they’re about.

What I’ve Been Reading

  • Good Riddance by Elinor Lipman: 1 star
  • My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren: 5 stars
  • The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger: currently reading
  • Landfall by Thomas Mallon: currently reading
  • Shortest Way Home: One Mayor’s Challenge and a Model for America’s Future by Pete Buttigieg: currently reading but almost done and will give it 5 stars

Yeah, you can see how my life is going since I’m currently reading three books at once. That’s what I get for trying to read a book I own, then go to the library because I haven’t been there in a week, and then putting a book on hold at the library.

Miscellanous

I finallymade an appointment to get my eyes checked and get new glasses. The last time I went to Target Optical was two years ago, and with my new insurance, I can get an eye exam every two years. I’d like to keep a style similar to what I have now.

My Questions for You!

  1. How was your month?
  2. Are you looking forward to anything in May?
  3. Any ideas for 25th birthday celebrations?
  4. What’s the best food truck food you’ve ever had?

  1. Is that white cheese in your grilled cheese?? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. When you say you’re sitting in the bleachers, is it the seats behind the bullpens? That’d be cool. Also, THREE BOOKS? That’s all kinds of crazy.

    • I think it was regular cheddar cheese…

Yeah, but I think we’re going to be more on to the left, like under the jumbotron. I’ve had better seats than the bleachers at previous Sox games, but I haven’t been in two years and I really don’t care where we sit.

Well I’m down to two now; I finished one last night. I need to stop going to the library when I haven’t finished other books yet.

  2. Hey 👋🏻Lemme suggest ZenniOptical.com to you! Way cheap glasses and super cute styles!

Saw you liked Law and Order shows… I just watched a docu on Netflix the other day called Legend of Cocaine Island. It was good! Definitely Law and Order type stuff!

Sounds like you like baseball, how about catching a game on your birthday?

April was a good month👍🏻 It had my birthday in it, yay!

  3. Oooo I stopped watching arrested development once it went into its Netflix seasons. Just didn’t enjoy it anymore.

    That grilled cheese LOOKS AMAZING!

My month was a rollercoaster, not really anything exciting for May, I have to start looking for a place to live though. 25th birthday: check something wild off your bucket list! And I don’t think I’ve ever eaten from an actual food truck. They aren’t so popular here in Canada yet. I did get an amazing burger once!! But it was the same as in the truck’s brick and mortar store, so does that even count? Lol

    • Yeah I feel like I’m struggling through season four. I keep telling myself it’ll get better but I’m not sure…

It was SOOO good. I could have probably eaten a second one but didn’t want to chance it haha.

The bucket list idea would be good, but I don’t have a bucket list haha. I might go to a winery with one of my friends. TBD. Haha yeah that burger counts.

  4. 1. Meh… I mean, I got a spring break out of it, which was nice. But overall, it was just a taste of what I really want: summer vacation. I do get the summer off, working in an elementary school. And I plan to exploit every moment of it.
    2. I’m looking forward to not seeing Justin Timberlake’s face plastered all over social media letting me know it’s gonna be May again until next April.
    3. I’ve been wracking my brain and I really can’t remember what I did for my 25th birthday. It was 14 years ago for me… and I didn’t start my first blog until December of that year, so there’s no written record. But I have no doubt it was epic.
    4. I’m with you on the grilled cheese. There’s a local truck called Toasted by Casey that’s nothing but various forms of grilled cheese. My go to is the Triple Threat. It’s a grilled cheese with marinara and three mozzarella sticks cooked inside. So good…
3 again… I just remembered that I had dinner at Pizza Hut with a bunch of my college friends and then went bowling. It was a good time. Maybe not epic, but good enough.

    • 1. Lucky! My mom used to be an elementary school lunch aide and had summers off, which she loved. I don’t know what I’d do with myself if I had three months off. But you should definitely enjoy your time off!
      2. Ugh yeah I saw that going around starting today and it’s only going to be worse tomorrow.
      3. Hahah I like low key, so nothing wrong with pizza and bowling. I might go to a winery with one of my friends. I’m going to a college grad party on the actual day of my birthday (for a family friend) so I’ll have to work around that. Plus it’s Memorial Day weekend, so everything will be busy.
      4. WHAT THAT SOUNDS AMAZING.

  5. Not sure if you’ve finished Season 4 of Arrested Development yet, but I will say it gets much better on rewatches! There are so many small things earlier on that don’t fully make sense until later episodes. When I watched it back through, I found it so much more enjoyable even though I didn’t love it the first time around. I still haven’t watched Season 5 yet, though!
