David’s Tea: I don’t drink coffee, but I’m a big tea drinker. I discovered David’s Tea back in the fall, and I love it. They have physical shops in the area, but I’ve been ordering my tea online. They have a wide variety to choose from, and you can get either tea sachets (the little tea bags) or buy loose leaf tea. I’ve been getting the loose leaf and use a little steeper in my mugs. If you like trying different kinds of tea, I’d definitely recommend David’s Tea!

Fantasy drafts: We had our draft Thursday night, and I survived! It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, but it’s always nerve-racking. I got most of the players I wanted and think I have a fairly decent team.

Minor league pay: I’m obsessed with how unfair this is. In the spending bill that got passed yesterday, there’s a section about “employees who play baseball” a.k.a. baseball players, and they’re not eligible for overtime pay. They work over 40 hours a week, including travel, workouts, etc., and they’re not getting paid for what work they’re doing. I doubt this would fly in any other regular business.

This was done to save teams money. According to SB Nation:

Players aren’t paid by minor league teams, they’re paid by the affiliated MLB clubs who are always searching for more ways to pay players less money. In the wake of unfair wage lawsuits taken up against the league by players — which the league has emerged victorious from so far — MLB is pushing harder than ever to make sure minor leaguers are not privy to the benefits of normal hourly workers, lobbying lawmakers constantly to push this into law. That lobbying led to the inclusion of a baseball wage provision in an otherwise unrelated and massive spending bill.

Minor leaguers aren’t part of the union, so MLBPA can’t do much to help them. So minor leaguers are making, at minimum, $1,110 per month, and this will require them to most likely get others jobs in the off-season.

But MLB teams have no problem handing out multi-million dollar contracts while knowing that the talent they’re building isn’t getting the pay they deserve. So let’s spend the least amount possible on the young players who are trying to make it big and will be the new batch of superstars once the superstars who are now getting those huge contracts are old and retired.

What I’m Reading: I finished “Watergate” by Thomas Mallon. I liked it, but it wasn’t what I was expecting at first. It’s the story of the Watergate scandal told through a handful of characters’ perspectives, and so far, I thought it would focus more on Nixon and how he and his administration handled the coverup and coverup of the coverup. It felt like I’m on the outside looking in, and I was expecting to be more on the inside.

Now I’m reading “Thanks Obama” by David Litt, Obama’s speechwriter. I’m looking forward to this book.

What I’m Watching: I recently finished Schitt’s Creek on Netflix and loved it. The first three seasons are on Netflix, and the fourth is currently running on the Pop Network. It’s about a family who lost all of their money and their house and move to the town they bought for fun—called “Schitt’s Creek”—and have to readjust to a much simpler lifestyle while living in a motel. I would recommend it if you’re into quirky and funny shows.

Now I’m watching Mindhunter, which is about the FBI in the late 1970s when criminal psychology and profiling was becoming a thing, and the main characters—two FBI agents and a pscyhologist—interview serial killers to better understand why they do what they do.

What I’m Listening To: Nothing in particular lately. I’ve been trying to watch Netflix a little bit more. I guess my running playlist on Spotify could count since I went for a run the other day, but that’s pretty all over the place.
