Catching Up Over Coffee: January 2026

We adopted a cat! In case you missed it, Josh and I decided to get a cat earlier in the month, and we adopted a sweet girl we re-named Cannoli. We might be biased, but she’s the bestest.

Josh’s work holiday party: His work has its annual holiday party in January, and we didn’t go last year because we both got sick after Christmas/early January, and it just wouldn’t have worked out. I was looking forward to going this year, mostly because I get to wear a sparkly dress (from Rent the Runway). BONUS: Since it was at the Hartford Yard Goats stadium, I got to take some swings in the batting cages in said sparkly dress. It was definitely the highlight of my night, and then I wondered why I was sore the next day; it was all of those hacks I took from the old guys throwing whiffle balls from behind an L-screen.

My first Springfield Thunderbirds game of the season: And it wasn’t with Josh! I went with two of my friends—neither of whom are sports people—but it was still fun. One of them, Alex (our fave third-wheel) was looking forward to fights, and we got two of them in the second period. The game went into overtime, and the T-Birds won 4–3 with a game-winning goal less than a minute into OT.

Miscellaneous:

  • Josh and I “celebrated” our 4.5 year annivesary. I put celebrated in quotes because it fell on a Tuesday, and we didn’t do anything special other than verbally acknowledging it to each other. But also 4.5 years?! We have a cat now?! This is crazy.
  • We got 14 inches of snow during a big storm last weekend! This is the first big storm I can remember in a really long time. It was a perfect excuse to stay in, read, and watch football. Cannoli didn’t really show an interest in the falling snow; she just snoozed in her bed for most of the day.
  • Also related, I’ve been doing a lot of inside activities, which basically means making myself into a blanket burrito and reading or watching TV. In addition to the 14 inches of snow that basically has no place to go, we’ve had sub-freezing temperatures the past week. There’s no reason for me to go out in single-digit temps, so you can find me and Cannoli snuggling and watching The Pitt.
