Catching Up Over Coffee: October 2025

This month went by super fast but also super slow? If that’s possible? October in New England gives you the last little bit of warm weather plus the leaves changing before winter moves in and everything is cold, dark, and sad for the next six months.

But also Happy Halloween! Josh and I will be staying in tonight and having our annual Spooky Night (homemade pizzas, Halloween cookies, festive drinks, and a movie). There aren’t any trick-or-treaters in our condo complex, so we don’t have to worry about that. When I lived at home, though, I’d dress up and hand out candy, which was always fun.

Hartford Marathon 5K: I ran this race again this year! And, of course, got a beer before 9:30 am. My time was basically the same, so yay for consistency?

Fun fall activities: Because Josh’s work schedule is in the process of changing, he’s had to work a few weekends during the day, which completely messed up my planned fall activities for us. The compromise is that I’d use some vacation time and turn it into Fun Friday Fall Activities. I’ll have a full recap post coming out next week, since we had an activity this afternoon we went to.

Some sad news: Unfortunately, we had to put down our family dog, Maggie, this month. She was literally the sweetest dog—you can’t tell me otherwise—and we gave her the best 13 years of her life. It’s been rough for my parents and me; some days I’m okay, other days I get hit with sadness, but I know that she’s not suffering anymore.

Miscellaneous:

  • This month was a lot of watching shows, reading, and fall-scented candles. I spent the first half in my favorite combo of bike shorts and hoodies, and now I’ve broken out my sweatpants and blankets. This is the cozy weather where I thrive.
  • Josh and I went to see Roofman in theaters, and because we’re the cool kids, we went on a Thursday night at 7:30 pm and had the entire theater to ourselves. We were hoping for more mischief, but it was a fun movie to go see, and I’ll never turn down movie theater popcorn.
