Catching Up Over Coffee: August 2025

Time is weird (again): August seemed to take forever, but this is also a good thing because I want to soak up the rest of summer before it’s over. But I’m not against this cooler weather, and I love a sweatshirt/shorts combo.

Maine part two: Maine twice in two weeks? Yep. So here’s part one and part two of our second trip up north for a super long weekend. We’re hoping to go up one more time in September.

My summer Fridays ended: Insert sad emoji ☹️ To celebrate, Josh and I went to the  Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and then out to dinner at Urban Lodge Brewing in Hartford. We went to the museum way back when we celebrated our one-year anniversary, and figured it would be fun to go back.

5K training: I’ve officially signed up for the Hartford Marathon 5K, and I’m fundraising for the dog rescue I started volunteering with in July. I put together a half-baked running plan (based on one I created last year), so far so good? I’m just trying to build my endurance back up; there’s no way I plan on coming in first.

Hartford Yard Goats game: Josh’s work has a suite at the stadium, and he was able to get tickets for this past Thursday’s game. The Goats lost 15–2 to the Portland Sea Dogs (we joked and said we should have worn our Sea Dogs gear instead), and I got the ever living daylights scared out of me by one of the mascots coming in the suite 🙃 It was great.

Miscellaneous:

  • I got ice cream with an old friend who I’ve known since the fifth grade. We got dinner earlier in the year, and after she got married this summer (!), we met up for ice cream at a cute little farm that’s halfway between where both of us live.
  • My mom and I had a movie date and saw Freakier Friday in theaters. It was really good! There were some throwbacks to the original, and I enjoyed it.
  • My cousin eloped earlier in the year and had a reception/party this month. Josh tagged along and got to meet my dad’s side of the family.
  • I’m in two fantasy football leagues again this year, and to stay on brand, I only start preparing for the drafts the day of. We had Josh’s draft last Sunday, and we have my draft tonight (led by our fearless commissioner, Paul).

  1. Sounds like a fantastic month! That ice cream carton looked so yummy and adorable! I also saw Freakier Friday on a date with my mom and loved it!! Younger and Bones are two of my favorite shows – I’ve seen Younger multiple times. And I’m interested to read Bury Your Bones in the Midnight Soil.

    • I watched Younger when it was on TV and rewatching it since it’s on Netflix. And this is my first watch through of Bones but I love it.

I also really liked Bury Your Bones! I picked it up on one (of many) bookstore stops when we were in Maine on vacation.
