Where We Went/What We Did
Downtown Portland: Stops included Novel, Longfellow Books, and Sherman’s Books, along with Shipwreck & Cargo (gift shop). We walked through some of the brick-lined streets and down by the water where the boats are docked. I got three books: Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny, Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo, and One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London.

Portland Sea Dogs game: We moved our August trip up a week (to this past weekend) because the Sea Dogs were going to be home; we usually go the second weekend of the month, but the team is away. The Sea Dogs were playing the Altoona Curve, just like last year, and we sat in the same seats, just like last year.

We stopped in the team store; Josh got a crewneck sweatshirt, and I got a t-shirt. My only complaint, okay, well, two complaints, are that the store is rather small and the sections aren’t clearly marked. I always end up in the youth t-shirt section first for some reason before finding the adult section.
The Sea Dogs were playing as the Maine Candlepins, so they had special jerseys and other promos for the night. All of the scoring happened in the third inning: the Curve scored one run while the Candlepins scored four.
And there were fireworks after the game! The Sea Dogs’ mascot, Slugger, came out to start the show and then sat on the ground to watch the entire thing, which was cute.

What We Ate + Drank

Rising Tide Brewing: This brewery is located in Portland and was our lunch stop on our way into the city for the afternoon. It had a great outdoor space, and we were able to snag one of the last picnic tables. I got Maine Island Trail Ale and Josh can’t remember which beer he got; we both chose BLTs for food. It was a great spot and I’d love to go back again.
Sea Dogs baseball game: We had your typical baseball game food—hot dogs, pretzels, and beers—and we had to get Sea Dog biscuits!

Where We Went
Gooch’s Beach: Like our last trip two weeks ago, we planned a beach day. We got there around 9:00 am (when the dogs are leaving) and, yet again, grabbed a parking spot along the sidewalk. We were there from 9:00 to about 3:00 pm; we didn’t go in the water because we thought it was actually colder than in July. Josh just hung out in the tent while I read about half of Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll.

What We Ate + Drank
Sunday’s meals were pretty chill: we made breakfast (scrambled eggs, toast, and yogurt with fruit) at the trailer, brought sandwiches and chips to the beach, and made pasta for dinner before leaving to come back home. I’m glad the trailer has a full kitchen, so we’re able to make meals if we don’t want to go out.
Overall Notes from the Trip
Like always, we were sad to come back home. Going to the beach on Sunday made the time slow down just a bit and gave us time to relax before packing and driving. We want to go back up together sometime in September, like we did last year, for two days before the campground closes for the season in mid-October.
