Catching Up Over Coffee: October 2024

Life

Happy Halloween! 🎃 👻 I hope you have more spookier plans than I do, which isn’t much. We don’t get trick or treaters in the condo complex, but, thanks to my mom, Josh and I have been eating Halloween candy all week. I think Josh and I are going for a walk after dinner—to scope out the neighborhood—and maybe a Target trip?

Overall, this was a pretty good month! The weather was great, and the foliage was so much better than the past few years; it seemed like a perfect fall month in New England. I spent most of my time watching shows, cross stitching, and running.

I finished a cross stitch! I ordered this pattern from Etsy two years ago and worked on it off and on for a while before finally picking it back up a few months ago.

For those who don’t know, it’s a quote from Arrested Development, one of my favorite shows.

When I finished that pattern, I ordered two more from Etsy and started one last week. I forgot how much I enjoy cross stitching; it’s an easy way to keep my hands busy and I usually watch a “trash” TV show, like Selling Sunset or something from the Below Deck franchise.

I saw Quinn XCII in concert on his All You Can Eat tour! I’ve been listening to his music since 2021 and really enjoyed the show. So did Josh—who I keep dragging to concerts.

Josh and I did a lot of fun fall activities this month!

Things not pictured:

  • I got my COVID and flu shots and thankfully had no bad side effects. My arms were sore where the shots were, but other than that, I was fine.
  • I early voted on Monday! This was the first election in Connecticut where you could early vote. It took about 30 minutes from getting there, waiting in line, and then voting.

“Exercise”?

I ran the Hartford Maraton 5K! I spent August to October training and running over 50 miles in preparation.

Many of those miles were run at my old high school’s track, and I had what I called “my friends”—people who were usually at the track on the same days I was. I’ll miss them. I’m signed up for another 5K race in a few weeks; it’s one I’ve done before and it’s for a good cause, so I’ll lace up my sneakers once more before the end of the year. I had a few dance classes and also started riding the stationary bike again.
