Diary No. 14

May is usually a busy month, but this month has felt weird so far. The month started with Josh having some car trouble, but he ended up getting a new car, well a new-to-him used car. Then I was suffering from my good old seasonal allergies and couldn’t go outside for more than a few minutes without becoming stuffy and sneezy. And then there was a day that I made eight (!!!) phone calls?! Part of that was with Verizon customer service to get transferred back to my dad’s family plan—and he thought he could totally get rid of me when I moved out. Plus don’t forget I’m still painting my kitchen cabinets. Things finally seem like they’ve calmed down a bit… as we’re rolling into Memorial Day weekend and the official end of my 20s. (My 30th birthday is Saturday and I’m in denial.)

But part of me is a little excited to celebrate? I don’t like being the center of attention—part of the introvert in me—so I usually don’t like to make a big deal out of myself. But I think I can be a little about myself for my 30th. I have a post coming out on Friday that goes more into detail about my thoughts on turning 30, so I’ll keep this short. On my actual birthday, Josh is coordinating a get-together (I’m not calling it a party) at a local winery with my friends and his friends. I didn’t want anything big or formal, so we compromised on the winery. Plus we can bring our own food, which makes things a bit easier.

Flonase is da real MVP. As I mentioned above, and in my post from last year, I suffer from bad seasonal allergies. I always have, but this year and last year have seemed really bad. One of those eight phone calls I made last week was to an allergist, and I have an appointment set up in July. I used to go to one when I was younger, and they did all of the allergy testing, but the over-the-counter meds just don’t seem to be cutting it anymore so it’s probably good I go see an allergist. But in the meantime, Flonase seems to be saving the day. I’ve been able to go outside for walks! And not feeling like I’m dying! Granted, I’m not going to go roll around in the grass, but we’re able to sleep with the windows open and I can at least feel free to leave the condo when I want.

I might have become a bird watcher. A few months ago, a family friend sent my parents and myself an eagle cam that was set up in Big Bear, and for a couple of days, I had it on in the background while I worked. Then my mom recently discovered a robin’s nest in their backyard, so she was sending me updates every other day. As of yesterday, all four of the babies that had hatched have flown the nest. And then one of my friends sent me a picture of a hawk’s nest that was found at the hospital she works for; at the last update, there were two babies. Is this what happens when you’re almost 30?

  1. Just entered my 3rd year in my 30s and I love it! I’ve heard that 30s are your 20s, but with more money. 😉 Though I will say, about a month after I turned 30, I had a mysteriously new ache in my knee that still comes and goes… Happy early Birthday! I hope it just the right amount and fun and uncomfortable. 🥳
