What I Bring to the Table

A few weeks ago when I was sick and after taking some NyQuil before bed, I was scrolling through my Instagram Explore page where someone had a video about what they bring to the table, with answers being funny. There’s a good chance this is some trend I missed—I’ve been off TikTok since September and my quality of life has greatly improved—but I thought I’d turn it into a blog post because that’s what I do best.

  • General nervousness all the time: It’s my default setting, and sometimes it’s fun to see what dumb things I’m worried about at any given time.
  • The ability to fill nail holes in walls: One of my weird talents! References are available upon request (my parents).
  • A one coffee a day limit: If I have more than one a day, I’ll feel like I’m crawling out of my skin. I only made that mistake once.
  • The absolute most random sports facts: Usually about something in a player’s off-the-field life, a weird injury they once had, or referring to a previous team they played for only by the uniform color.
  • Ice cream scooping: I worked at an ice cream shop for 11 years, so I consider myself an ice cream professional.
  • Knowing a lot of classic rock songs: We can thank my dad for this one as I grew up listening to a lot of older songs. Two summers ago, Josh and I went to a performance by a local classic rock cover band; they introduced one of their songs as, “It came out in 1973” and I told Josh that I probably knew it. I heard the first note of the song and instantly knew it was “Carry On Wayward Son” by Kansas—and sang every single word.
  • Watergate knowledge: One day I’ll figure out my obsession with the scandal. But I’m basically a walking Watergate encyclopedia.
  • An emotional support water bottle: Gotta have one. Mine comes everywhere with me, even on the shortest of car drives. Because if I don’t have it, I’m suddenly incredibly thirsty, like I’m stuck in the desert somewhere.
  • Asking if snacks will be provided: I recently obtained evidence that this is part of my brand. In our marketing department Slack channel at work, a co-worker asked on my behalf if snacks would be at a possible upcoming event. I replied, “Thank you for asking the important questions 🫡 ”

What are a few things you bring to the table?

  1. it’s amazing how many people know nothing at all about Watergate (I loved when the word was brought up in Stranger Things)…..I need to quit coffee!…..after two cups I need to know the location of every restroom on the planet…..and don’t get me started on classic rock….but, at 65, my classic rock isn’t everyone elses…..and way too many one hit wonders….

  2. The inability to open anything with a peel back lid properly (like fast food dipping sauce, applesauce, pudding cups…), never receiving a correct order at a restaurant, excellent parallel parker (especially when it comes to the 40ft mobile health clinic I drive for work 😉), and endless bodily-noise machine (I hiccup randomly throughout the day and try as I might, there is no stifling my sounds 😬).
