2024 Baseball Hall of Fame Results

I’ll just get straight to the point: this year’s inductees make my heart so SO happy. Adrian Beltre, Todd Helton, and Joe Mauer got the call last night and will be heading to Cooperstown this summer as part of the Class of 2024. They also join Pittsburgh Pirates, Florida/Miami Marlins, Colorado Rockies, and Detriot Tigers manager Jim Leyland, who was voted in by the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee.

I grew up watching Beltre, Helton, and Mauer, and I’m not sure if it makes me feel old that these players are eligible for the HOF. Regardless, it’s kind of cool to have watched these guys play their careers and now are being recognized for all they accomplished.

This year’s results are (players must get 75% of the vote or 292 votes to be inducted):

  • Adrian Beltré: 366 votes, 95.1%
  • Todd Helton: 307 votes, 79.7%
  • Joe Mauer: 293 votes, 76.1%
  • Billy Wagner: 284 votes, 73.8%
  • Gary Sheffield: 246 votes, 63.9%
  • Andruw Jones: 237 votes, 61.6%
  • Carlos Beltrán: 220 votes, 57.1%
  • Alex Rodriguez: 134 votes, 34.8%
  • Manny Ramirez: 125 votes, 32.5%
  • Chase Utley: 111 votes, 28.8%
  • Omar Vizquel: 68 votes, 17.7%
  • Bobby Abreu: 57 votes, 14.8%
  • Jimmy Rollins: 57 votes, 14.8%
  • Andy Pettitte: 52 votes, 13.5%
  • Mark Buehrle: 32 votes, 8.3%
  • Francisco Rodriguez: 30 votes, 7.8%
  • Torii Hunter: 28 votes, 7.3%
  • David Wright: 24 votes, 6.2%

Any players receiving less than 5% will drop off future ballots:

  • José Bautista: 6 votes, 1.6%
  • Victor Martinez: 6 votes, 1.6%
  • Bartolo Colon: 5 votes, 1.3%
  • Matt Holliday: 4 votes, 1%
  • Adrián González: 3 votes, 0.8%
  • Brandon Phillips: 1 vote, 0.3%
  • Jose Reyes: 0 votes, 0%
  • James Shields: 0 votes, 0%

Here are some facts about this year’s inductees:

Adrian Beltre

  • Voted in on his first year on the ballot and among the highest voting percentages in HOF history
  • Played for four teams during his 21 season career: Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, and Texas Rangers
  • 477 home runs, 3,166 hits, 4x All-Star, 5x Gold Glove Award winner, 4x Silver Slugger Award winner, NL home run leader (2004)
  • Inducted into the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame and had his number 29 retired by the Rangers
  • When he played for the Red Sox, he kicked Jacoby Ellsbury in the ribs when Ellsbury was making a sliding catch in left field—and I still haven’t forgiven him for that
  • Two of the best things about Beltre: he hates having his head touched and he was once ejected for moving the on-deck circle

Todd Helton

  • Elected in his sixth year of eligibility
  • Played his entire 17-year career with the Colorado Rockies
  • 5x All-Star, 3x Gold Glove Award winner, 4x Silver Slugger Award winner, NL Hank Aaron Award, MLB batting champion (2000), and MLB RBI leader (2000)
  • The Rockies retired his number 17
  • When he retired, the Rockies gave him a horse—one of the weird things I’ll always remember

Joe Mauer

  • Voted in on his first year on the ballot and one of three catchers voted into the HOF
  • Played his entire 15-year career with the Minnesota Twins
  • 6x All-Star, AL MVP (2009), 3x Gold Glove Award winner, 5x Silver Slugger Award winner, 3x AL batting champion
  • Inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame and the team retired his number 7

Hall of Fame Weekend takes place in July, and if Beltre, Helton, Mauer, or Leyland need any recommendations in Cooperstown, I got you.

  1. Hi. Beltre is #52 in the book I’m reading ‘Baseball 100’ by Joe Posnaski. I just finished reading Beltre’s chpt. Tuesday night. Posnanski calls Beltre “one of the most joyous players in baseball history”. I think you’d love the book.
I saw Helton play here in Colorado – back-in-the day. cheers

  2. I use the book as therapy – often to put me to sleep when my mind won’t stop racing. Reading the stories soothes me. I know all the characters, and the world was much simpler. I love all Posnaski’s stats, lists, and comparisons – fun. Better than counting sheep. 🙂
