Diary No. 11—Holiday Edition

I’m no longer grumpy about the holidays. In my last Diary, I led off with how much I was dreading the holiday season. Things have changed in the last month or so, mostly Josh forced me to put up the Christmas tree. We spent the Saturday after Thanksgiving hauling up the Christmas decorations from the basement and decking out the condo. It took a few days but I warmed up to the decorations and now very much enjoy the festiveness.

All I’ve been watching is Home Alone 1 & 2 and The Santa Clause 1 & 2. Well, it helps that Freeform shows the movies basically 24/7. Those are my favorite Christmas movies, so half the time I just have them on in the background. I also learned that Josh had never really seen The Santa Clause movies, so we started by watching the first one on Disney+. I’ve also caught parts of the newer Grinch movie, the animated one, and it’s pretty cute.

It’s officially peppermint mocha szn. I stocked up on the peppermint mocha creamer a few weeks ago when it first appeared in the grocery store and couldn’t wait to open the container to use it. I’ve also broken out my festive mugs for my daily cup of coffee in the afternoon. It’s still in the stores, and I’ll probably grab one more before the season is over so I have it for the rest of the wintertime.

We got an Elf on the Shelf. Yes, we know we’re two adults without children—let us be. It’s a knock-off elf from Amazon, but it still works. Her name is Tinsel, and we take turns every day hiding her around the condo or she just gets into her own mischief. This was Josh’s idea from over the weekend.

We went to an ugly sweater party at a local brewery. It was just the two of us, but it was fun to have a little date night together. We each got flights and another beer after that; I really liked their s’mores milkshake-style beer. (For those wondering: my sweatshirt says “Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal” from Home Alone 2.)

And we hosted a small holiday party! We originally wanted to do a Friends-giving but it didn’t work with all of our schedules, so we made it a Christmas/holiday party instead. It was with Josh’s friends (who I ran the 5K race with last month), and everyone brought something to eat. I made the little place card trees, we got festive paper plates from Target, and it was low-key. After we ate, we played Cards Against Humanity: Family Edition and Joking Hazard.
