We went out for breakfast at Mike’s All Day Breakfast in Kennebunkport—well, actually, it turned into brunch because of the 45 minute wait. We got there around 9:40 a.m. and put our name in for the wait list. Around 10:30 we were up next and called in for a table.
(Disclaimer: I forgot to take a picture when we were there in the morning so we went back after they were closed, thus why no one is waiting outside.)

I got two chocolate chip pancakes and sausages, and Josh got Eggs Benedict Irish with corned beef hash. Both of our meals were really good. I couldn’t finish the last quarter of my pancakes, so Josh did.
On our way out, we ran into his cousin who we saw Friday night and was staying at the campground, too. She called his name, and I was like, who could we possibly know up in Maine? Then realized there was a good chance it was a family member. We chatted with her for a few minutes before going into the Port.
There’s a free parking lot about a five minute walk from the Port, so Josh likes to park there because 1. it’s free, and 2. it’s easier than trying to find parking in the Port itself. We walked in and out through a lot of the little shops and both got Kennebunkport t-shirts from the shop we got out KPT swag from last year.

My favorite spot! The building on the left is the Boathouse Waterfront Hotel—and the rooms are very expensive. They do have a restaurant, though, that looks really good. I’ll have to see if it’s open to the public, could be an option for next year.

We stopped into Batson River Brewing & Distilling for drinks. Since we ended up having brunch at Mike’s, we skipped lunch and got drinks instead. No rules on vacation, right? We sat at the bar; my drink was called Want Want and Josh got their Vienna beer. It was a cool spot and we’d definitely go back for drinks.
For the rest of the afternoon, we headed back to the campground. I sat out on the porch and read some more while Josh played a game on his laptop. We made dinner—burgers and tots—and went for a walk around the campground.

Afterward, we went to Shain’s of Maine in Sanford for ice cream—a repeat favorite from last year. I got Dino Crunch—because I’m a child—and Josh got Irish Creme & Cookies. I ended up making a mess because I got mine on a cone, and Josh had to go get extra napkins.
Then we made a quick Walmart pitstop so I could buy a new pair of sunglasses. Earlier in the day, I noticed the nose pad on the pair I had been wearing fell off and I couldn’t find it. We figured Walmart was my best option for a cheap pair. Similar to the CVS in Portland, this Walmart also sold alcohol.
Once we got back to the campground, Josh and I watched a few episodes of The Bear. It wasn’t a good night for a fire since it had rained in the afternoon, and plus we just wanted to hang out inside for the night.
Monday, August 14
We had one goal for the day: beach! (Said in a Ken from Barbie voice.) Our beach of choice was Gooch’s Beach—mostly because it’s in Kennebunk and Josh has a parking pass for the beach. On our trip last year, we did quickly stop by so I could walk on the beach and into the freezing cold Maine water, but this year, we planned an entire day to go.

Parking is right along the road to the beach, and Josh had to drive down and back before finding an open spot. Luckily, the sand right next to our spot was open, so we didn’t have to walk far—or schlep, my favorite beach activity.
Since we’ve already gone to the beach twice this summer, I think we’re pros at our beach setup. We brought the tent, chairs, cooler, and bag full of towels.

Of course, I spent most of the day reading. I had finished Beach Read the night before and brought Either/Or with me. We also saw a seagull steal a package of pretzels from the group next to us.

We went in the water three times, and it was cold. There’s really no time of year when Maine water is warm. The waves, though, are intense and you have to watch yourself so you don’t get knocked over. We would jump through the big waves, and I ended up having a lot of fun. Josh tried throwing me in the water but ended up throwing me face-first into a wave, so that was fun… We also took a walk down the beach, and unfortunately, on the way back, Josh got a bloody nose. (It’s normal for him but the timing wasn’t great.)
I noticed a difference in the sand in Maine vs. the sand at Connecticut beaches. In my realization, I originally said to Josh, “It’s less sandy” and he just laughed at me. By that, I meant the sand was less grainy in Maine, like it’s very fine sand, and in Connecticut, the sand is bigger and sticks to your feet more. I’m a fan of Maine sand now.
We left around 4:15 p.m. to go back to the campground and both shower before dinner. Josh wanted to take me to Ryan’s Corner in the Port, where he’s been a few times before.

For beers, we both got Smithwick’s; for dinner, I got a haddock sandwich and Josh got a blackened chicken mac and cheese.

Our plan for the rest of the night was another fire, beers, and s’mores. I read a bit while Josh got the fire ready, and we ended up staying out there until at 10:00 p.m. just talking.
love the pix……I’ve never thought of Maine, Maine for some reason..but some of the shots you post remind me a lot of Stamford, and/or maybe Weston or New Haven……so, someday….
