Ten facts about myself that no one asked for but are here for you to read.
1. I’m an only child.
I think this is always the first fun fact I come up with, but it’s something that will never change. I like being an only child, and really it’s all I’ve ever known. I know that people always think only children are spoiled, but it all depends on how the child is raised. Yeah my parents have bought me things and helped me out here and there, but I got a job at 16—one that I still have—and I pay for mostly everything for myself. If I had a choice, I think I would want an older sibling; I don’t know how I’d do with a younger one.
2. I can wiggle my ears.
I know I can’t really prove this to you via blog post, but trust me? It was something my grandfather could do, and I noticed after he passed away that I can do it, too.
3. I’ve never broken any bones.
The closest thing I guess I’ve done to breaking a bone is spraining my ankle during my senior year of college—walking down stairs while holding a box. My mom took me to the ER just to make sure I didn’t break it, and I was on crutches for three days before giving up. Sometimes the pain in my right ankle acts up if I run too much now.
4. I wear socks to bed.
Apparently this is considered a weird thing? Like I can’t sleep barefoot. I’ve always slept with socks on and always will.
5. My favorite color is any shade of blue.
My second favorite color is coral.
6. My comfort foods include anything with pasta and cheese.
Baked ziti and mac and cheese are my favorites.
7. I don’t like pie.
I have a texture issue with pie crust. So whenever my mom makes an apple pie, she makes me an apple crisp.
8. I’ve never been on a plane.
Follow up fun fact: I’ve never been out of the northeast. I don’t travel much, so obviously I’ve never flown. Planes also sort of freak me out? Like I know you’re safer in a plane than in a car, but the whole being off the ground thing freaks me out. A lot.
9. In my senior year yearbook, it says that I wanted to major in English in college and then work at ESPN.
Neither of those things happened. I did apply to college as an English major but switched once I found out the communication major exists. Back in 2012, I don’t even think I knew the social media part of my job would exist years later. Or that I’d be working at the university that I went to.
10. I think that mushrooms are absolutely disgusting and shouldn’t exist.
Enough said.
Hehe awesome facts! But did you mean coral for your second favourite colour?

7. Same – The only pie I like are the apple pies from McDonald’s. Everything else is a no.
8. Same
10. Once had a food at university that I described as a slimy log to my parents because I was trying to figure out what it was that I ate. A few weeks ago, I figured out it was a type of mushroom. Took like 9 years to figure it out. Anyway, I like mushrooms and cannot agree with you on this one.

Haha I’m glad we have such weird things in common. Okay if you have to describe something as a “slimy log” then maybe you shouldn’t be eating it. Because that sounds disgusting.

Omg omg omg! I am an only child too!!!! Lonely children unite! 😂 Only children are rare and I get excited whenever I meet someone who is an only child like me.
I don’t like pie either but Costco pie is decent. It’s actually pretty good. I won’t eat any other brand of pie.

Hello fellow only child! Haha I don’t think I know any personally now that I think about it. I’m normally the odd one out.

Tbh I hated being an only child because it was lonely. As an adult, I still kinda resent it. My mom says I’m weird for wanting a sibling but I think she’s the weird one haha

I can totally see that. I don’t really mind it; I’m an introvert so I don’t mind being alone haha.

I used to always swear off onions and mushrooms, and I have come around on onions but I refuse to eat mushrooms in any way.

You can wiggle your ears but can you curl your tongue? I can tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue. I have three sisters, all our names start with the letter “J.” I’ve always wondered what it would have been like to have a brother. We share comfort foods but I like mushrooms. My husband feels the way you do about them. Fun answers.

I can roll my tongue! Can’t do the cloverleaf though haha. I’m happy to hear me and your husband are on the same page about mushrooms 😂

I don’t like pie either! Specifically the crust, I don’t like the way it feels on my teeth and I think the taste is meh it ruins the filling

Yeah it’s definitely a texture thing for me too. I love pie filling, just not the crust haha.

What does your shirt say?
Beware of the Pod?, Dog, God?, Poo?

It says “Friend of the Pod”! It’s from the merch store of a podcast that I listen to; they refer to any guests they have as a friend of the pod.

100% with you on mushrooms! I can’t stand the texture – it feels like eating rubber.
I also agree with you with the socks thing. I used to never wear socks, but my feet are always cold since I moved to the UK so I had to start wearing socks. My husband bought me those super warm socks with a sheepskin-like texture on the inside? I sleep so much better now that my toes don’t feel like they might fall off! 😂

I hate having cold feet in general, so I’m definitely not going to deal with it when I’m trying to sleep. I love all kinds of fuzzy socks, especially during the winter!

Me, too. Three cheers for only children! (I married one, too … so we never have to worry about keeping track of nieces or nephews or sibling-in-laws.)
I wish I could change your mind about pie, though. 🙂
