If We Were Having Tea

I had seen these kinds of posts done by people in the past, and I figured it was a good post to do on a monthly basis to talk about what’s happening in my life. The concept is that if we were sitting down and talking, this is what I’d tell you is going on. And, of course, you’re more than welcome to share what you’ve been up to in the comments! 🙂

This month had its ups and downs, mostly downs, but we’re—my family and I—are fighting through it. I hope things get better next month, because it was a sucky way to start the new year.

I think I’m finally out of my funk at work. I’ve been working on a few projects that I felt good about and working with really nice people is just really nice, too. I hit my three month anniversary this month, and it feels like I haven’t been there that long but also that I’ve been there longer than that. I guess that’s what happens when I went to school there, too. The students are back on campus, so there is a lot going on, unlike how dead campus was while they were on winter break.

I’ve been in sort of a book slump. Out of the last six books I’ve read, I gave three of them two-stars on Goodreads. They seemed promising—I had even read one of the author’s other books before—but I don’t know if it’s because I’m being too picky or cynical about romance, I just didn’t like them. My Ex-Life by Stephen McCauley, was good, and Turbo Twenty Three by Janet Evanovich was an easy read. I’m reading Baseball Cop by Eddie Dominguez now. I read before I go to bed at night, and sometimes I’ll read for a half hour or so on during my lunch at work.

The Super Bowl is Sunday, so that means my mom is making some awesome snacks. I’ll have a pre-Super Bowl post out on Friday with a drinking game included.

I’ve realized I’m kind of a homebody. This isn’t brand new information to me, but now that it’s winter—it was two degrees last week TWO DEGREES!—I look forward to staying in on the weekends and either reading or watching Netflix. There’s not much you can do when it’s that cold in New England, so I’d rather just stay in where it’s nice and warm.

I finished Ozark on Netflix, and now I’m watching Grace & Frankie. I had watched the first three seasons when they came out and then kind of fell off. Now that seasons four and five are up, I’m picking up where I left off. I’m definitely not in their demographic, but it is a funny show. I’ve started watching the Ted Bundy show, too, since it’s only four episodes.

I’m glad January is over, but I don’t really have much planned for February. I know there are a few projects coming up at work for this month, and I’ll mostly be reading and staying out of the cold.

My Questions For You!

  • How was your January?
  • Are you looking forward to anything in February?
  • What’s something good that happened to you lately?
  • How do you feel about Valentine’s Day?
  • Will you be watching the Super Bowl this weekend?

  1. Cute idea. I can’t go into too much depth, but January was a tough one for our family. I’m looking forward to February, and hopefully, a new light ahead. Something good that happened is that classes started on our campus, and I always look forward to seeing the students. I think Valentine’s Day is highly overrated. I think you should be loving and kind as many days of the year as possible and not have to “show your love” on one particular day. And I’ll be watching the Super Bowl because I want to see if Tom Brady can do it again and because in my sports communication course, we’ll be talking about the commercials, the game, and all aspects of the halftime show. 🙂 Stay warm!

    • Now that I’m working on a college campus, I like that all of the students are back from break because campus was so empty without them. It’s refreshing to start a new semester. That’s awesome that you talk about the commercials and the game in your class. One of my roommates took a sports management class that looked at the commercials too and she spent the entire night writing a paper about them. Best of luck this semester, and stay warm too! 🙂

  2. – January was kind of a blur for me. Nothing special…
    – There’s a four day weekend in February thanks to a teacher work day and (I think) a parent/teacher conference day. When the kids don’t have to show up at school, neither do I.
    – I picked up my second cold of the school year. So I guess that means I’m one step closer to building the ultimate immune system.
    – Just another day.
    – Probably, though I’m not sure where. I don’t have a way to watch it at home since I don’t have access to any of the local channels and the only party I’ve been invited to thus far is a 45 minute drive away that I just don’t want to deal with on a Sunday night. So there’s actually a chance I’ll miss it this year.

    • Four day weekends are good! Hopefully you’ll have a relaxing one. Sorry to hear about the cold 😦 Those are no fun. I somehow (knock on wood) didn’t get one this year. I don’t blame you about the 45 minute drive to watch the Super Bowl, but I hope you can watch it somehow!

  3. I really like this post! It’s a fun way to recap the month!

    1. I didn’t mind January. It went fast, but slow at the same time. Overall, aside from the cold, it was probably one of my favorite months in Chicago so far!

    2. I am excited for a weekend trip I’m going on and Valentine’s Day haha

    3. I feel like a lot of good things have happened to me in January. I’d say work is just going well overall and i am getting more opportunities.

    4. I love Valentine’s Day. Connor and I have never really done anything special, but I love getting him a present and going out to dinner!

    5. I will be watching the super bowl! I’m not sure where yet though!

    • I’m glad your January went well! Aside from the freezing cold temperatures. Where are you going on your weekend trip? I think a lowkey Valentine’s Day is better because you can just hang out with your person and not get caught up in all of the fuss. Who will you be rooting for in the Super Bowl?

  4. January was ok for me. Aside from not having hot water right now in my apartment, it’s been decent!

There’s a long weekend in February here in Ontario. One Monday is called Family Day and it’s a holiday so I’m looking forward to that!

I’ve been having a grump of a week so I’m having a hard time thinking of something good lol

I’m not a big fan of Valentine’s Day. I think it’s over commercialized and a waste of money. That being said, if some guy randomly gives me a gerber daisy on that particular day, I’m not going to be upset haha

    And no. Football = gross.

    • Oh no, sorry to hear about the lack of hot water. Hopefully it’ll get fixed soon? Paul has told me about Family Day and how Canada is aiming for at least one holiday for a day off per month. I see that we have the same outlook on Valentine’s Day haha. My mom normally gets me something, though, like peanut butter cups and nail polish or a little stuffed animal.

      • My boss thinks it’s just frozen from the cold air. So I just have to wait for it to warm up and unfreeze. It’s running a little bit now but not getting hot. Thankfully it doesn’t affect the whole house, just my room

  5. Ah, I love this idea! Hopefully the drinking game you put out is easy enough for non football people to enjoy. I know nothing about the sport but will probably be watching on Sunday. 🙂

    To answer your questions:

My January was ok, it’s had some ups and downs as well but overall I felt like I made it through just fine. For February, I’m really looking forward to Boskone, a sci-fi/fantasy convention held yearly in Boston. I went for the first time last year and I loved it so I’m VERY excited for this year! I went out with a friend last weekend for the first time in ages, which is probably the best thing that’s happened to me recently. I definitely feel conflicted about Valentine’s Day, in theory it’s cute and a nice time to appreciate the people in your life, but it’s also soo easy to feel left out of stuff.

    • I think the drinking game is approved for everyone. There’s nothing in it that’s like rule specific or like “someone makes a fourth down conversion.” It’s more like “there’s a Giselle sighting” or “Bill Belichick throws something on the sidelines.” It’s more of what the announcers talk about or what’s shown.

The convention sounds exciting and I’m glad you’re looking forward to it! Sometimes just getting out with a friend is good every once in a while. I see one of my old co-workers every two weeks or so, which is something I look forward to. I agree with you about Valentine’s Day. Sometimes it gets out of hand when I feel like it’s not really that big of a deal. I tend to avoid social media on that day haha.

  6. 1. Good! Only positive things to report, so that’s a good start to the year.
    2. Mainly just baby stuff – we have our follow up ultrasound and babymoon scheduled and I am very excited about both!
    3. I don’t know if this happened “to” me, but I haven’t eaten out in almost a week. I’ve stuck to my meal plan so far this week and it feels amazing!
    4. Not a fan – I think you don’t need a day to express your love to your significant other/friends – but now that we are married, Jeremiah and I typically spend the evening together. Last year I made a surprise dinner for him.
    5. Most likely not.

    • What’s a babymoon? Is it like the last hurrah before you have a baby and are housebound for months because you’re now responsible for a very small person?

I’m glad you’re sticking to your meal plan! What have you made?

      Like

      • That’s exactly what it is! Basically just some one-on-one time between you and the hubs before the baby takes over your lives XD Some people take extravagant trips, but we are just doing one night in Fort Worth, so nothing fancy, but special. 🙂

Let’s see… I’ve made lots of chicken haha literally we’ve had chicken three nights in a row haha and spaghetti.. but it’s a start.

      • I think a night in Fort Worth will be fun for you guys. Sometimes fancy stuff is too much, so the simpler the better.

I made a lot of chicken in college when I cooked for myself. And pasta. Rice was another go to. I’m happy that you’re sticking with it though!

  7. The first two books I finished this year weren’t the best either. I also read before bed. 🙂 I cannot wait to read your pre-superbowl post! I’m a little behind on reading blogs right now but I’ll get there soon!

I’m def a homebody, too. I love staying home so much. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Ted Bundy tapes. I’ve been wanting to watch it since it was released.

    • So with Ted Bundy, I found the episodes to be boring, as weird/bad as that sounds since he was a serial killer. I got through the first two episodes and then gave up. It’s a documentary, which I normally don’t mind watching, but I found it a little hard to follow (timeline wise) and I basically had to follow along reading his Wikipedia page. It’s worth a shot to watch it, but it wasn’t for me. I ended up watching Manhunt: Unabomber instead and liked that.
