Bill’s Questions

1. What’s one Christmas tradition from your childhood that you still wish you did today, even though you’ve long since outgrown it?

Leaving a note and cookies for Santa. I’d always pick the best cookies to leave out. And we would leave “reindeer food” outside in front of the house. I think it had glitter and some kind of grain in it; I don’t think glitter is reindeer-friendly.

2. Do you prefer Christmas lights on people’s houses to be understated or extra?

Extra. Our lights aren’t—we put out a string of twinkle colored lights on our fence in our front yard and have a small inflatable reindeer and a snowman—but there’s this one house on my way to work that has every inflatable that’s ever been made on their front lawn and it’s so tacky but it’s so wonderful. What’s even funnier is that it’s across the street from a country club.

3. Memory from a previous Christmas that to this day makes you laugh your head off?

I hate to say it, but I can’t think of one…

4. Church or no church?

No church. Even when we went to church for a few years when I was younger, I don’t think we ever went to any Christmas services.

5. “Love Actually” — great Christmas movie, or greatest Christmas movie? (If you read to this point, you know what the answer better be.)

I’ve never seen that movie… but I’ve heard it’s good.

6. Stockings for your pets, or no?

Yes! Of course. We bought little stockings last year for my three pets, each with their initial on it. I’m probably a bad pet sister in that I don’t buy them Christmas gifts; we normally just put some treats we already had in the house in their stockings. Because they don’t know the difference, right?

7. Has anyone ever actually brought you figgy pudding?

Nope.

8. What exactly is figgy pudding?

I have no clue. It sounds gross.

9. Have you ever gone Christmas caroling?

Nope and never plan to. No one wants you to show up at their door and you force them to listen to you sing.

10. Completely unexpectedly, a celebrity knocks on your door Christmas Day with presents for you and yours. Who would you want it to be?

The first answer that popped into my head when I read this question was Gabe Kapler, and he’d give us the gift of having more than three lefties on his pitching staff next season.

But an actual celebrity… hmmm, maybe Ryan Reynolds. I’ve always liked him.

11. If you could fly away to some foreign country for Christmas, where would you go?

I’d like to go to Sweden. I’m Swedish on my mom’s side, and they have some Christmas/holiday traditions, like Lucia Day. My mom’s aunt who lives in New Hampshire always sends us Swedish-made ornaments or figurines.

12. If money were no object, what gift would you want for Christmas? What gift would you want to give?

The gift I’d want is to have my student loans and car completely paid off. Boring but that would definitely help out a lot. I’m not sure how this would work but I’d like to give my dad the gift of retirement. He’s still got a few more years until he can retire, but I think he deserves to happily retire and putter around the yard.
